National Library of Wales — Forensic Institutional Review
This material now lives at https://fcg.bucklerfamily.estate/case/national-library-of-wales-forensic-institutional-review.
Chronology and catalogue links — assessed 10-10-2026: See the Institutional Involvement Roadmap (1877–2026) for the date-ordered institution, people and evidence sequence. The reported 1988 Cadw-to-Minister spot-listing letter has its own placeholder at GHF-E152; the original has not been attached to that page as at 10-10-2026. A placeholder records an evidence gap, not the letter’s content or proof of misconduct.
Forensic Assessment — National Library of Wales
Scope: NLW as archive/custodian, especially the Bute Estate material relevant to the historic title and tenancy chain.
Why NLW matters
The Bute Estate collection is one of the principal remaining routes to the pre-WGR history, including the 1877/early transaction material, Llandough manorial leases and agreements and related estate papers. The project has identified D219 as a priority series.
Forensic control test
Search the catalogue and related uncatalogued material for Great House/Tŷ Mawr/Cedfin, Daniel Thomas, Williams, Llandough and the relevant Bute estate solicitors. Distinguish original deeds, abstracts, rentals, drafts and later copies.
Current finding
As at 10-10-2026, the material reviewed does not establish wrongdoing by the National Library of Wales. This is limited to the archive/search trail identified here and does not rule out further relevant records. The institution is an evidence source and custodian. Missing material must be accompanied by a documented search/retention explanation before any inference is drawn. 🕒
Human action
Arrange a targeted research visit/request for D219 and any Corbett family papers relevant to the 1877 transaction and later land administration. Capture exact classmarks and plan references.
Acceptance: targeted search completed and all relevant classmarks, images or negative-search explanations recorded.
Institutional appearance timeline — linked source index
Coverage rule: this is a chronological navigation map of published Wiki source pages found by searching the current site index for “National Library of Wales”. Every event label links directly to the page containing the source. It avoids duplicating source narratives. It records mention/appearance, not culpability. Dates are transcribed from page titles where available; “Date not explicit in title” means the linked source must be consulted. Search indexing is a discovery aid, not proof of exhaustive external coverage. 🕒
Records-access register appearances — direct row links
Rows below match the institution’s name or an alias in the reply register’s sender/reference or recorded description. A match shows an appearance in the records trail, not necessarily an act by this institution.

Cross-reference — Cedwyn / Cydfin place-name evidence: References on this page to variants such as Cedwyn, Cydfin, Cedfin, Cydwin or Tŷ Mawr should be read alongside the GHF-E173 complete reference index and, where relevant, the Llandough (Penarth) pre-1877 manorial evidence page. Name similarity is a research lead, not proof of identical location, boundaries, ownership or title.
16 October 2026 — catalogue record 507738: “Eviction News Material”, 30 November 1988
Source link: Watch and Listen item 507738. The catalogue data supplied for this review describes a one-minute HTV Wales videocassette on ITV Betacam stock, with recording and broadcast dates both stated as 30 November 1988. The abstract describes Miles Fletcher pieces to camera, bailiffs removing furniture, removal vans and Branwen Buckler leaving the farm, and says the High Court granted an injunction stopping BP demolishing the farm.
Limits: the cataloguer’s note says “Not viewed”; the tape contains several unrelated clips and this clip’s position is unknown, so the description may come from the broadcaster’s log. The record as supplied has neither a catalogue-created date nor an online-publication date. Do not infer when the catalogue page went online from the event, recording or broadcast date.
Distinction and publication chronology: this 30 November eviction/injunction record is not the separate 5 December 1988 “Wales at Six” demolition headline/report. The project chronology records the YouTube viewing copy linked at GHF-E113 as published on 25 July 2025. That is not a date supplied by item 507738; the catalogue record has no catalogue-created or online-publication date in the information supplied. The relation between the cassette and YouTube copy and the uploader/source history remain unconfirmed. Search separately for 5 December HTV Wales items and log exact catalogue identifiers and search scope. Ask the Enquiries team/Beryl Evans when item 507738 was created and first published online, and whether a distinct 5 December demolition package is catalogued. A negative result should be recorded as a dated search result, not proof that no material exists.
Access and rights: the supplied record states that original materials are not circulated, digital viewing is restricted to Reader’s Ticket holders on Library premises, and reuse requires written permission from ITV Wales. Those ordinary stated conditions do not establish a case-specific NDA or concealment. Physical/digital inspection of the tape and any actual collection of media remain pending.
