Catalogue: GHF-E123 · Type: Missing family papers (farm agreement, title deed, receipts) · Date of loss: c. 1950–52 · Holder: unknown; legacy files of WGR’s successors, BP and the BP Archive, Linklaters, and any successor of the Penarth agent Mr Knapp are the named places to ask · Evidence status: MISSING

FAMILY EVIDENCE. Mary Williams says papers including the agreement relating to the farm were taken from the farmhouse blanket box by a lodger placed in June 1950 by Mr Knapp, a Penarth estate agent, and passed to Knapp at his request; the family title deed was reported missing in 1950–52 (statement). The 1987 Court of Appeal recorded that Mary’s title documents were never produced.

  • Who removed the papers and where they went. Nothing yet links Knapp to WGR or the Bute estate.
  • The full list of what was in the box, including whether the 1928 receipt (E120) was there.
