Evidence status: PARTIAL — related diary image linked; original 1928 receipt not identified. The photographed item is described as coming from William Buckler’s 1983 diary and refers to Daniel Thomas receipts. The page’s own description correctly distinguishes that later reference from the actual receipt. This is not a claim that the original receipt never existed, or that every custodian has confirmed it is not held.

INFERENCE / PROVISIONAL RECONSTRUCTION — NOT A TRANSCRIPTION OF THE RECEIPT

If a 1928 rent receipt is located, its probative value will depend on the actual date, payee, amount, description of the land or tenancy, and whether it records house-plot rent, quarry rent or another payment. The current material supports treating the receipt as a priority document to test the reported end of quarrying and house-parcel rent; it does not justify inventing the receipt’s exact wording, amount or legal effect.

  • Whether the 1928 receipt survives. It is thought to have been among the papers removed (E123).
  • The exact date quarrying ceased, from independent quarry or limeworks records.

Interpretation and wider context

FAMILY EVIDENCE / LEGAL INFERENCE. The date matters because no rent paid on the house parcel after 1928 is the factual basis for the alternative adverse-possession case maturing by 1940.
