Farmhouse nomenclature
- farmhouse — normal modern functional term for the principal dwelling.
- farm house — spaced form appearing in historical/public material.
- the house — contextual shorthand where the surrounding citation makes clear that the Great House farmhouse is meant.
- principal dwelling — descriptive category used here for clarity; not presented as a historical property name.
Scope
This page does not make “farmhouse” a synonym for the whole farm or for Parcel A. The farmhouse is the building. Parcel A is the full 1877 house/quarrying estate: house/buildings, barn, stable and yard west of the house, garden, north forest, and south-east ground later registered as VG41. Parcel B is the separate eastern agricultural fields. Mary’s later defence of the occupied house/buildings/garden group was not the full geographical extent of Parcel A. On the family’s established title case, the 1877 arrangement took effect in 1928. The family’s account is that 1955 enforcement of Parcel B also seized the north forest and south-east green under “whole farm” wording.
Colour key
The farmhouse family uses blue shades. Within this family, darker or lighter blue is used to distinguish individual nomenclature variants when linked elsewhere.
