Quotation: “Dated 6th November 1877. The Trustees of the Will of the late Marquess of Bute to Mr John Williams. Lease (Counterpart) of Land and Premises situate in Clyde Street Roath in the County of Glamorgan. Term 99 Years From 29 Sept 1877. Rent £2.12.6.” / “John Williams of System Street Roath in the County of Glamorgan Builder” / “This deed noted on Plan No. 15”

Proves: On 6 Nov 1877 the Bute Trustees granted John Williams, a builder of System Street, Roath, a 99-year building lease of a house plot in Clyde Street, Roath, at £2 12s 6d a year.

Does not prove: Anything about Great House Farm or Llandough. It does not show that this John Williams is the Ty Mawr family’s John Williams. It does not rule out a separate farm lease of the same date.
