Quotation: Rate of 20 Aug 187?: “John Williams | Lord Bute | Farm” (extent column, read in sequence: 76); “Lord Bute | Lord Bute | Woods” (32a 3r); “Daniel Thomas & Son | … | Lime Kiln & Quarry”. Oct 1876: J. Williams, Farm, 76a, gross £41 0s; Woods 32a 3r 39p, owner Lord Bute. Rate of 9 Apr 1872: John Williams also rated for glebe land (owner Rev. H.H. Rickards).

Proves: In the 1870s John Williams was rated in Llandough as occupier of a farm owned by Lord Bute. Lord Bute was rated for woods in his own occupation. Daniel Thomas & Son were rated for a lime kiln and quarry.

Does not prove: That the farm is Ty Mawr by name (the book gives no farm names). The 76-acre figure depends on aligning rows across the fold. No tenancy terms are shown.
