DESCRIPTION A low-resolution image of a South Wales Echo news page, from the family’s Drive (Screenshot_20250617-170535 (2).jpg). It carries three Great House Farm items: “Angry scenes as farmer evicted” with a photograph of a car; “A bitter feud over rights that lasted 33 years” by Peter Bibby; and “Action on farm”. A large photograph shows a woman with three young children.
Correction, 5 October 2026: this was earlier described as a front page. The “From page 1” continuation box shows it is an inside page. Its date is taken as about 30 November 1988 from the content; the masthead strip is illegible.

[Legible text in the copy held] Angry scenes as farmer evicted. A bitter feud over rights that lasted 33 years. By Peter Bibby. Action on farm. From page 1. [The body text, the photograph captions and the masthead date strip are not legible at this resolution.] [Also on the page: Chernobyl mayor invited to Britain; an advertisement for Aspro.]
Interpretation and wider context
INTERPRETATION The headlines confirm that the Echo reported the eviction as it happened and gave the dispute’s length as 33 years (from about 1955, the High Court order against Frederick Buckler).
The car photograph may relate to the later charge of wanton or furious driving, but that cannot be read from this copy. The full page, with the headline “Chernobyl mayor invited to Britain” as a finding aid, should be ordered from the British Newspaper Archive.
