Quotation (verbatim; obvious OCR letter errors corrected only): “On the 23rd instant, at Llandough, near Cardiff, Amy, relict of the late Mr. John Williams, Great House farm, aged 65 years.” (Cardiff Times). “WILLIAMS.—Dec. 23, at Llandough, near Cardiff, Amy relict of the late Mr. John Williams, Great House farm, aged 65.” (Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian).

Fits with: The 1904 report that the younger John Williams succeeded his father in 1855 (EV-0227). The elder John Williams was dead by December 1864 and was remembered as “of Great House farm”.

Lead: The burial register of St Dochdwy’s, Llandough, for Amy (Dec 1864) and the elder John Williams (c. 1855) would give the dates and ages. Repository: Glamorgan Archives (parish registers). SOURCE PENDING.

Cuts against: A notice says nothing about tenure or ownership. Amy’s maiden name is not given.

Proves: A John Williams of Great House farm, Llandough, had died before December 1864, and his widow Amy died at Llandough on 23 Dec 1864, aged 65 (born c. 1799).

Does not prove: Whose son the later John Williams was, though it fits EV-0227; ownership or tenure of the farm.

Our case; not a finding of any court. Catalogued by Tab for Sion Buckler, 19 Oct 2026.
